All change at DG One

OFFICE space for NHS and Council staff could be created on the second floor of DG One Leisure Centre.

The move has been revealed among proposals for the troubled £17 million complex on Hoods Loaning in Dumfries, as it undergoes an estimated £10 million of remedial works.
A report presented to councillors this week said: “Officers have been working with the preferred contractor, McLaughlin and Harvey, through a negotiated procedure to priorities the remedial works to maximise design of the building, influenced by previous experience of operating the facility.”
Proposed design changes include removing flumes and the lazy river and replacing it with a ‘significant interactive children’s play structure’.
Permanent bar provision would be removed, and replaced with temporary ‘pop-up’ bars to be erected when the need arises.
The health suite would be redesigned to accommodate future health and wellbeing initiatives.
And the sauna and stea, provision would be moved poolside to create a unified wet side experience for users.
Meanwhile, staff accommodation will be relocated to the ground floor near the main entrance, and ‘positive discussions’ are continuing with a food franchise operator for changes to layout and catering provision.
