Earlier this month, a fed-up Moffat vigilante, working under the cover of darkness, repaired speed bumps outside the town’s academy.
Digging into their own pocket to fund the repairs and preferring to remain anonymous, the person responsible acted out of frustration with Dumfries and Galloway Council for taking so long to repair their sleeping policemen.
And at last week’s meeting of Lockerbie Community Council talk also turned to taking a DIY approach to getting things done.
Member Bud Little said: “The outside of the townhall is a mess, it would be quicker for everyone involved if we just did something about it ourselves but we know that’s not an option.”
But the do-it-yourself attitude in Moffat has gone unappreciated by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
A spokesman said: “Members of the public should not undertake any works within public road boundaries without the permission of the local roads authority.
“The council has only recently been made aware of an issue with the speed bumps in the vicinity of Moffat Academy.
“Roads service staff will inspect the area and, within budget constraints, any required works will be carried out on a priority basis.”
