It is being carried out by researchers from The European Ethnological Research Centre from Edinburgh University.
They are conducting interviews with people, as well as transcribing and contextualising historical documents, including diaries, account books and memoirs.
Meanwhile, written work on topics relevant to the ethnology of the region is also being encouraged.
And the organisers hope this will result in a range of scholarly publications, from journal articles to books, that will provide “an engaging and lucid account of life in Dumfries and Galloway through time.”
A talk will take place in Castle Douglas on November 19 to share the results of the project and what it says about the places and people of the region.
