A Yellow ‘be aware’ warning has been issued for Dumfries and Galloway with forecasters revealing a possibility of snow down to around 300 metres over the weekend and it will remain very cold with a substantial ‘wind chill factor.’
Power firms in the South of Scotland and Cumbria are monitoring the situation as the first major storm of the winter is set to bring winds up 70mph, as well as up to 50mm of rain and the possibility of structural damage.
And Scotland TransServ is on standby to keep the local roads network moving.
Spokesman Andy Fraser said: “With weather warnings in place for high winds right up until Christmas Day, Scotland TranServ has 50 operatives on standby, 24/7 to tackle even the harshest conditions and help keep south west Scotland on the move.
“Specialist drain clearing plant has been drafted in, ready to help address any localised flooding issues and Incident Support Units (ISUs)will be patrolling routes to remove debris from trunk roads and help stranded motorists get on their way.”
Meanwhile, weather experts are monitoring a follow-up storm for Christmas Day and the yellow be aware warning remains in force.
