Tony Caig previously launched a school at Annan Athletic’s home grounds of Galabank in 2009.
But he said: “When they were changing the pitch around, getting the new pitch, there were a few issues with getting pitch time and getting help continuing.
“But over the last couple of months I’ve been going in and doing a bit of work with the first team goalkeepers at Annan on a Thursday evening.
“And the club then approached the subject of an academy.”
Tony is a former Gretna FC goalkeeper and notes that he still runs an academy in Carlisle on a Wednesday evening.
But he says he was receptive to the approach from Annan Athletic, and that an agreed was put in place allowing the academy to launch next Thursday January 5 with a free session.
Tony said: “It’s going to be running on Thursday evenings, from 6 pm to 7 pm, on the main pitch at Annan.
“It’s open to ages seven to 16, of all abilities, and I’ve left it open to the Annan goalkeepers that area actually at the club at the moment — they have first refusal to attend.”
Noting the first session is free, Tony added: “People can come along, get involved and see what they think.
“And if it’s something they would like to continue with afterwards, then I have more information on that in terms of leaflet, details on my website and registration forms.
“But it will be limited numbers. As I’m taking it myself, it’ll be limited to 16 players.”
The academy is set to continue running in five week training blocks, covering all aspects of goalkeeping from footwork to general handling, diving saves, shot-stopping, one vs one, and high balls.
