It is a good thing that St Mirren boss Jack Ross reminded Queen of the South manager Gary Naysmith, pictured above, of the tie, as he quipped that he forgot that his side had reached the semi-final.
Naysmith said: “In the first few weeks here I never really thought about the game, and to be honest, I forgot all about it when I was appointed manager.
“It wasn’t until I was sitting in the office after we beat St Mirren that Jack Ross said we could end up playing each other in the final.”
Chairman Billy Hewitson on the other hand has been optimistically looking forward to the game at Palmerston, and is expecting goals and an action-packed match.
He said: “They’re good at going forward, and we’re good at going forward, so you’ve got to think that it will be quite open and that there’ll be goals.”
Queens striker Stephen Dobbie is no stranger to finals and has his sights set on another with the Doonhamers.
Involved in more goals than any other player in the Scottish Championship this season, Dobbie has struck up a clinical partnership with strike partner Derek Lyle, and is hoping that it continues to produce goals tomorrow.
Dobbie said: “I’ve struck up a good partnership with Derek Lyle, he’s scored a few goals as well this season, and we’ll be hoping to continue that on Saturday.
“This is a semi-final, a one-off game, and it’s exciting. I think it’ll be an open game and I think both teams will be going for it.”
Welsh outfit The New Saints are travelling to Paisley to contest the other semi-final with St Mirren on Sunday.
