TV debut for Gretna zombie film

A ZOMBIE film set in the marriage capital of Scotland is set to hit TV screens as it is released on Amazon Prime.

‘Zombies Have Fallen: Vengeance Runs Deep’ was filmed in and around Gretna, including at the Anvil Hall.
Filmmaker Sam Fountayne said: “The locations we used in Dumfries and Galloway were mainly around the Gretna area.
“Being a small village means there is a great deal of countryside for us to use. The areas we found were perfect.”
Describing filming, he said: “Every day was a new challenge in terms of filmmaking. For instance, one day we would be in a forest throwing each other around in the mud with a chance of a storm hitting us and the next day we would be underneath a train station filming exhausting battle scenes.”
Within the village, more than 50 locals got involved and took part in the final battle scene, with people also coming from Aberdeen and Newcastle to get involved.
The film is about a young woman called Kyra who possesses supernatural abilities and escapes from a secret base where she has been kept hostage from a young age.
She is helped by a retired bounty hunter called John Northwood.
Sam, who was the writer, director and producer of the movie, said: “The film is based on my love for action films such as Taken, Leon The Professional and Skyfall.
“I wanted to embed a father-daughter story throughout the film to give some depth to the overall story and characters.”
The stars of the film have come from all corners of the UK, such as Tansy Parkinson, Ken Richardson and Tony Gardner.
However, some characters, including John Northwood and other minor roles, were played by amateur actors who had never been in front of a camera before.
Sam said: “Maybe one day in the future I will return to Dumfries and Galloway. It depends if Hollywood gives me a call.”
