Is petite Demi the country's smallest bus driver?

LOCALS boarding a McCalls bus have been doing a double take all week . . . thanks to their newest bus driver who is just four foot 11 inches tall.

Eighteen-year-old Demi McCall from Lockerbie is the newest driver to the join the team.

She’s following in the footsteps of her bus driver dad Andy McCall, owner of McCalls Coaches, mum Mary and sister Mairi, who has been on the road since 2015.

Demi said: “I found lessons and the test easy, it all came pretty naturally to me as it’s in my blood.

“I’ve been been driving buses for as long as I can remember, driving around the yard on my dad’s knee unable to reach the pedals.”

And it seems that growing up in a bus mad environment has helped make Demi a skilled driver, for the petite driver passed her test last week on her first sitting.

And without a moment to spare she was bus bound the very next day.

She said: “I started work the day after I passed my test. My passengers were shocked to see me and were asking if I’m old enough to drive.”

Pushing boundaries in a male dominated job, Demi is in good company at McCalls for her sister Mairi is a fellow driver and the company’s director Kirstin Taylor is the woman in charge.

GIRL POWER . . . Demi with Mairi and Kirstin

This year marks 20 years in business for McCalls Coaches and as dad Andy takes a back seat Demi looks forward to helping take control.

She said: “I hope that McCalls Coaches goes on to be as successful as the last 20 years. “We are a good team and work well together and I am now proud to be part of the McCalls Coaches driving team.”

Previously her older sister Mairi hit the headlines in 2015, asking if she could be the smallest bus driver in the country.

But it seems like little sister Demi has now stolen her crown and could be Scotland’s smallest driver.

Do you know of a bus driver smaller than Demi?
