MPs react to General Election shock

ONE of the region's MPs has confirmed he will stand again in the June General Election.

Richard Arkless was elected for the SNP to the Dumfries and Galloway seat two years ago.
And yesterday he set out his intention to fight for the Westminster seat after the Prime Minister announced a shock summer vote.
He said: “I will be standing on my record as your constituency MP for the last two years. I’ve been accessible and really tried to give you a detailed insight to what I do to represent you. I’ve solved problems for over 7000 of you and met with thousands more. I’ve used my past as a lawyer to real effect, able to offer my constituents a wider scope of advice and service.”
He hopes to be re-elected to “make sure D&G has an effective voice in Parliament”.
Meanwhile, Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell, who is also Secretary of State for Scotland, has yet to formally comment on Theresa May’s announcement this morning.
However, he revealed on his Facebook page that he will be putting himself forward as a candidate.
