He has been a member of the Castle Loch based club since 2005 and is also a former treasurer.
Looking forward to the new challenge, he said: “Taking on the role was a natural progression from being treasurer and wanting to put something back into the club from which I have derived a lot of enjoyment.
“My first, and lasting, impression of the club was its friendliness and inclusiveness. Members range in age from six to over 80, there is a great family atmosphere and it’s rewarding to see the youngsters starting out and progressing, with some competing nationally and overseas.”
Stephen, who lives in North Cumbria, hopes to continue the good work of previous commodores in attracting new members to ensure the continuity of the club. He is also looking forward to the development, later this year, of an extension of the club’s boat house to form a new training room and winter boat storage.
