UPDATE: Biker dies after second A711 accident in days

A MOTOR cyclist died late on Saturday afternoon as a result of an accident on the A711 Dumfries to Dalbeattie road near the Tower Golf Centre, west of Dumfries.

The collision, which also involved a van, was the second serious accident in five days on the same stretch of road.

Last Sunday night a man and woman died after a vehicle caught fire after an accident around a quarter of a mile from the latest incident.

After yesterday’s accident the A711 road remained closed until around midnight.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We can confirm that the motor cyclist died and that the occupants of the van were unhurt but badly shocked.

“A full accident investigation is being held into the crash. We are not releasing any further information until next of kin have been informed.”
