TV show chance for Ecclefechan

ECCLEFECHAN has been shortlisted to feature on a TV programme - with £10,000 of prize money up for grabs.

The ‘Village of the Year’ show will air on Channel 4 later this year, but for the village to be considered, a presentation has to be created detailing why Ecclefechan should be selected.

Ecclefechan Community Project is behind the application and the group are looking for the opinions of not just committee members, but all of the village, to help complete the presentation.
Jeanette Reid submitted the initial application, and said: “I could really use everyone’s help here, especially, but not exclusively, on the history and heritage of the village section, and what you would like to do with the money if we won.
“I would really appreciate everyone’s input – it’s a chance for all villagers to have their voices heard.”
Project chairman Calum Craig echoed her request for input from villagers, and emphasised how important it is that everyone has a say.
He said: “Ecclefechan has so much history that I couldn’t begin to guess what we’ll put in there for that section at the moment. That’s why it’s so important that people get in touch and let us know what they think is important to include.
“It’s a similar situation with the potential prize money – it’s so important that everybody gets a say, even the kids. I ask my kids to ask the other children in school if they’re happy with things like playgrounds in the village. Their opinions are important too.”
Also needing to be included within the presentation is a 250 word description on why people, residents and visitors love the village, a description of what the village looks like, and what events and activities there are to do between the months of June and July.
Residents of Ecclefechan who would like to contribute to the presentation should contact Jeanette by email at [email protected].
