Writers and artists for titles such as Batman, The Beano, Commando and 2000AD will be mixing with fans in the relaxed setting of the village on June 10 and 11.
And noting the success of last year’s event prompted plans for another festival this year, organiser Sue Grant said: “Without the community of Moniaive pitching in with ideas and offer of help this small but perfectly formed comic convention would never have got off the ground.”
Last year’s comic festival proved a relaxed, low-key, family-friendly experience, and was notable for how many young children attended the event,
And this year the festival will feature an expanded programme for the youngsters with an ambitious ‘Let’s Make a Movie in a Day’, which takes them through the whol process right up to a screening of the completed piece in the Palace Picture House.
Guests at this year’s event include Batman and Judge Dredd writer Alan Grant, Commando’s Ferg Handley and Spider-Man, Doctor Who and The Flash artist Mike Collins, along with legendary cartoonist Hunt Emerson, and highly acclaimed artist Dave Kendall who has worked on comics like Toxic and role playing games such as World of Warcraft.
Also appearing is Steve MacManus, former editor of 2000AD.
Events featured as part of the weekend will include workshops on writing and drawing comics, talks on Scots language, a book launch, free signings and sketches, panels, stalls and a photo shoot with the theme ‘Urban Goth’.
