SOUTH west Scotland's two MPs are preparing for what promises to be an eventful new session at Westminster following the General Election.

David Mundell, who held his Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale constituency with an increased majority, and his newly elected Conservative colleague Alister Jack in neighbouring Dumfries and Galloway — formerly held by the SNP — will set off for the UK Parliament this week.

They gave their initial reaction to DnG24 following their election after the overnight count on Friday at the Easterbrook Hall in Dumfries.

Mr Mundell was reappointed to the post of Scotland Secretary on Sunday by Prime Minister Theresa May.

With an unexpected hung parliament and Brexit talks looming, the next House of Commons promises to be lively, dramatic and historic.
