Trainers on for trekker Lizzie

A COFFEE shop assistant manager is swapping cappucinos for clouds this weekend as she gears up to tackle a tough charity trek

Lizzie Lamont, 48, who has worked at Gretna Gateway’s Costa Coffee for more than seven years, will be taking part in the National Three Peaks Challenge tomorrow in aid of the Costa Foundation.

The coffee chain’s charity aims to relieve poverty in coffee-growing communities by improving education, health and the environment for children.
Mum-of-two Lizzie is hoping to raise more than £500 and said: “This is the first time I have committed to doing anything this physically challenging, so the thought of July 1 is quite daunting, but I’m going to be really excited to say I’ve completed it and to reach my fundraising goal.”
The National Three Peaks Challenge is a 24-hour hike and drive of the highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland – Scafell Pike, Snowden and Ben Nevis.
It consists of 26 miles of walking and 462 miles driving between each peak over one day.
Lizzie said: “I recently did a practice run of Scafell Pike, which is the shortest of the three peaks at six miles up and down.
“I don’t think anyone can be fully prepared to take on the Three Peaks, but after completing the England peak I think I am as ready as I can be.”
She added: “The charity is a brilliant organisation dedicating funds to coffee-growing communities in order to improve everything from education to health, so I am really proud to be able to fund-raise for them on behalf of Gretna’s Costa Coffee.”
