Ben Nevis ticked and now for Nepal

A JET-SETTING couple have scaled the UK’s tallest mountain to raise money for a trip to Nepal.

Lockerbie pair Ferne Lambert-Gorwyn, 24, and boyfriend Sam Maxwell, 25, are well known for a jet-set lifestyle.

And now the duo are ditching their day jobs and travelling to Nepal to work with vulnerable children for three months in the Nepalese districts of Lamjung and Baglung.
The couple, who will celebrate three years together this month, are volunteering with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), an international development charity with a vision for a ‘world without poverty’.
Ferne is a seasoned volunteer, having spent a defining year with the Project Trust in Chile between 2011 and 2012.
And from then on she’s been a committed traveller, racking up thousands of air miles exploring the world.
But volunteering has always had a special place in her heart and now she hopes to get boyfriend Sam hooked too.
The couple will be working with children as part of an education programme which focuses on increasing school enrolment, retention and participation of children who are marginalised from the education system – especially vulnerable girls, children with disabilities and Dalit children.
Sam and Ferne are funding their own flights and accommodation, but are fundraising £800 each to cover volunteer costs.
And they climbed Ben Nevis on Saturday in a bid to bolster their funding campaign.
Speaking after the climb, Ferne said: “Ben Nevis was a great but challenging hike and we completed it in eight hours.
“It just so happened to be the Annual Ben Nevis Race that day and most of the runners completed it in an hour and a half.
“It was such a beautiful day for it as well and the views were fantastic.”
And this Saturday the couple are hosting a coffee morning at Lockerbie Town Hall from 9 am to 12.30 pm.
Their sponsorship pages are still up, to sponsor Ferne visit: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/elizabeth-ferne-lambert-gorwyn and to sponsor Sam visit: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sammaxwell?utm\_source= Facebook&utm\_medium=fundraisingpage&utm\_content=SamMaxwell&utm\_campaign=pfp-share&utm\_term=DKrzZ24NK
