A day for Dumfries

ACTIVITIES, art and music are coming to north west Dumfries this Saturday - as part of ‘Day of the Region’.

Lincluden and Lochside will be joining the initiative aimed at working with communities to promote organisations and activities.

Youth group Sleeping Giants will be taking part in the day, and director Debbie McDowell said: “This event is a great opportunity to recognise and showcase the work of the community members over the summer, which has revealed the depths of the hidden histories of the local area.

“We hope as many people as possible get involved with the event to help bring north west Dumfries to life.”

Events and activities will be happening across Lincluden and Lochside between noon and 4 pm.

Between 12 noon and 3 pm there will be a community Rhino clean at the Rhino bus stop in Lincluden – with buckets and sponges will be provided – as well as badge-making and more family activities.

Between 12 noon and 1 pm, Lincluden Abbey will host ‘Abbey Antics’ with a treasure hunt, time-travelling tours, storytelling and geocaching.

A film screening will take place at 1.30 pm at Lochside Community Centre, and Lochside Glentrool Park will host a variety of fun, family activities between 3 pm and 4 pm, including a sensory garden experience, YMCA activities, live music and food.

All events are free, and all members of the public are invited to join.

Over the weekend residents will also get the chance to vote for a community project to receive funding from the Bounce Back initiative.

Going head to head are the YMCA, Lochside Community Centre, Cantonese Language Lessons, Chinese Lantern Festival, North West Brownies and Dumfries Toy Library.

Voting takes place today (Fri) from 7-9 pm at the Abbey Inn in Lincluden and tomorrow 12 noon to 3 pm at the Lincluden Rhino.
