As the festive countdown begins, Yasmin Ocansey who runs the Dumfries Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Job Club is encouraging local people to come along and learn new skills to help them get a festive job.
Yasmin said: “If you have been out of work for any length of time, finding a job can seem like climbing a huge mountain when you are totally out of condition but just like getting fit, it’s easier if you have some moral support.”
She added: “We are confident that we can help anyone who is looking for work.
“Sometimes temporary work over Christmas is good because it gives you a springboard, boosts your confidence and it is often easier to get a job once you have got one.”
The job club runs an eight-week ‘Steps To Employment’ course which offers friendly, practical support to help jobseekers step confidently into employment.
The course provides workshops on different topics, such as interview technique, along with peer-to-peer support and individual coaching.
The next course in Dumfries will run from 10 am on September 28 at the River of Life Church near Dumfries Railway Station, and finishes just in time for members to apply for jobs this Christmas.
CAP Job Club is recommended nationally by the Department for Work and Pensions, with four in every ten members UK wide during 2016 finding work.
Yasmin said: “It doesn’t matter how long you have been unemployed, how many application forms you have filled in or interviews you have attended and not got the job, we will do what we can to help make this Christmas better for you and your family.
