Wheelchair OAP robbed

THREE people are being sought after a 93-year-old woman in a wheelchair was robbed in Dumfries.

The pensioner was shopping in the town centre on Saturday morning, with another lady, when a large amount of money was stolen from her.

At about 11.30 am, she withdrew an undisclosed sum from a bank and police are exploring the possibility that she was followed by the trio from the bank to the point where the theft occurred.

Officers are now looking for two women and a man in connection with the incident. He is described as being 35-40 years old, with close cropped hair and a moustache and was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans which had rips on the front. The first woman was in her 30s, about 5’5″ tall, with short, blonde hair swept to the side and she was wearing a 3/4 length Puffa style jacket. Meanwhile, the second woman was again in her 30s, and was wearing a 3/4 length olive green Puffa style jacket and a dark hat.

Constable Alistair Hope said: “Anyone who may have been in or around Dumfries town centre on Saturday is asked to give us a call if they might be able to help us identify these three people, or if have seen anything suspicious on Saturday morning, early Saturday afternoon.

“I would also like to remind the public to be extra cautious, especially at this time of year when they might be carrying more money than usual. Be alert to anyone getting too close to you, or who seem to be taking a particular interest in those using local banks, building societies or cash machines. If you have to carry a large amount of money then split it between different pockets and bags. We still have a number of purse bells available which when attached to a purse can raise the alarm should someone try to steal it, and these can be obtained at Loreburn Street Police Office.”

Police can be contacted via the 101 number.
