Brexit in focus

THE Secretary of State for Scotland and the President of NFU Scotland are set to take part in a special ‘Question Time’ style event in Dumfries next week which will focus on the potential effects of Brexit on the country’s rural industries.

David Mundell MP and Andrew McCornick will be joined by representatives from the red meat, dairy and banking sectors for the discussion evening organised by SAC Consulting and taking place at the Barony Campus on January 18.

The event will begin with a talk from SRUC economists Kev Bevan and Steven Thompson, who will outline the different ways Brexit could affect Scottish agriculture. Following the panel discussion, which will be chaired by SRUC vice chairman Alistair Marshall, members of the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions. Chloe McCulloch, senior consultant at SAC Consulting, said: “There is no doubt that the UK’s decision to leave the European Union will have an impact on Scottish agriculture and, with its diverse landscape and thriving livestock, dairy and arable sectors, Dumfries and Galloway can expect to see the full spectrum of this impact. This event is an excellent opportunity for members of the agricultural industry to hear expert views and to get a better idea of what Brexit means for them.”
