A701 crash victim named

THE man who died in a crash near Amisfield yesterday afternoon has been named.

Michael David Reid, 63, from Dumfries died following the collision on the A701 at about 1.45 pm on Wednesday.

He was driving a white Iveco Daily flat bed pickup, which was in collision with a white coloured Scania tanker lorry.

Mr Reid was pronounced dead at the scene but the tanker driver, a 55-year-old man from Dumfries, was uninjured.

The road was closed while an investigation was carried out and diversions were put in place.

Police are appealing for witnesses and Sergeant Leigh McCulloch from the Trunk Roads Patrol Group said: “A full crash scene investigation was carried out and the road was closed until around 11pm on Wednesday night.

“We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this collision and would ask that they contact us on the 101 number, quoting reference PDG 0027660218.”
