On Saturday Linda, who runs Satur Mill Donkey Sanctuary at Middlebie, decided to take advantage of the nice weather by capturing some photos of the sanctuary’s inhabitants.
But it was not until she downloaded a photo of fluffy foal Dior onto her Facebook page that she noticed something, or rather someone, familiar in the background, in the form of Clydesdale Maisie . . . who passed away six weeks ago.
Linda said: “I didn’t notice until I uploaded the photo, but it is unmistakably Maisie.
“Maisie was put to sleep six weeks ago and I couldn’t believe it.
“I’ve never been either a believer or an unbeliever of the afterlife until now. Obviously there have been little things over the years that made me stop and think, but nothing as big as this.”
She added: “What I do find really touching is that Maisie was here at the sanctuary just a short time with us, she’d had a hard life, was crippled, but the fact that she thinks of Satur Mill as home and decided to stay here, that’s really quite amazing.
“It’s also amazing that the camera picked her up, that it has seen something that we haven’t.
“I’m just very happy that she’s chosen to come back here, it must truly have felt like home to her.”
And squashing doubts that the photo is not legitimate, Linda said: “The photo is very clearly taken on April 21 at 10.25 am, it says that very clearly.
“Anyone who doubts me is welcome to see.
“And as for editing, I wouldn’t even know where to begin with that!
“Welcome home Maisie.”
