The 'sad story' of DG One

A 400 PAGE report on the saga of DG One, including 34 recommendations, was presented to councillors in Dumfries this afternoon.

Professor John Cole CBE led the £246,000 inquiry into the beleaguered leisure centre.

And he told the meeting that lessons can be learned for the future across the public sector: “These problems are not just in DG, but much, much wider.”

Prof Cole claimed there was a lack of expertise and skillset from tradesmen to management levels involved in the project.

He said: “It’s a very sad story.”

A working group will now be set up within the council to determine what actions should be taken in response to the recommendations and findings.
