Nancy Wilsenham, 63, is preparing to walk the Rob Roy Way to raise money for MND Scotland next month in memory of her architect husband Clive who passed away in 2011.
She said: “Clive died four years ago; he suffered from Motor Neurone Disease for five years.
“You just lose everything but your brain still works so you are still there but you’re trapped in a body that doesn’t feel like your own anymore.”
She added: “MND Scotland acted as a real lifeline for me.
“They gave me and Clive so much support and they truly are such a fantastic charity. They depended, until recently,on purely donations. It’s a small charity but it’s a very big disease and there is no cure for it.”
Nancy has taken part in a fun run for MND Scotland for the past five years but this year set her sights higher as she hopes to raise at least £1000 by taking part in a 77-mile-long walk across the southern highland of Scotland.
She said: “I miss him so much and I feel I keep his memory alive by doing this and raising money for MND Scotland.”
“He was chief architect at Dumfries and Galloway Council until 2004 and designed Eastriggs Primary, which he was very honoured to do as he has strong links with Eastriggs.
“He was a very mild-mannered man and very popular at home and at work, I’ve never heard a bad word said against him in all my life.”
Nancy along with Clive’s two cousins Ginger McCall and Kemp Foote, both from Eastriggs, will complete the Rob Roy Way over the course of six days starting on Sunday May17.
