End of the road for Pinneys

THIS week is the beginning of the end at Annan fish factory Pinneys.

The factory, owned by Young’s Seafood, announced closure plans earlier this year, and it has been confirmed that the majority of contracts will come to an end this week.

A spokeswoman for the company yesterday said: “Most production at Pinneys concludes this week, after which a small crew will now remain to wind down operations at the site.”

Meanwhile, Government agencies are being urged by a South Scotland MSP to support the workforce. MSP Colin Smyth says more action is needed to help those affected by the closure as they seek alternative employment.
