Dog dirt is #1 concern

DOG fouling is the biggest problem in Annandale and Eskdale, according to residents.

In June, 411 people across the three wards responded to a survey run by Dumfries and Galloway Council’s community safety team.

And they overwhelmingly agreed that dog fouling is their number one issue. It was followed by litter in Annandale North and Annandale East and Eskdale, but rowdy/nuisance behaviour came out second in Annandale South.

However, respondents generally agreed they feel safe living in their neighbourhoods and going out and about, at 86.6 per cent.

Meanwhile, across the whole region, 1503 surveys were completed and 90 per cent of participants said they feel very safe or safe – above the council’s target of 78.5 per cent.

Presenting the survey results in a report, resilience and community safety manager Martin Ogilvie said: “Dog-fouling, littering and rowdy/nuisance behaviour were the three types of antisocial behaviour that respondents consistently felt were the most significant problems in their neighbourhood, which mirrors the 2016/17 survey results.”
