Kerstin Dodd, 17, is just back from South Korea, where she competed in the 10m pistol World Championships. Excluding the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics, it is the biggest event Kerstin, who went to Lockerbie Academy, can compete in and she put in an excellent performance, ending up ranked as 67th in her category.
She said: “It was really good. “It was a great experience and I think it has helped me to develop as an athlete.” After shooting with the best in the world in the under-21 section, it has spurred Kerstin on to try and build on her recent success. She said: “I got a good world ranking at this tournament, but I feel like I can do much better. I did not shoot as well as I wanted to and there was a lot of room for improvement, it was below my average. I will be looking to develop for the next competition.”
Now at Stirling University, where she is studying nursing, Kerstin said: “It has been a really busy time. “I am enjoying the balance between university and shooting though.”
Her next contest will be the Welsh Open in November and she said: “I will be looking for medals at the Welsh Open. “I will be looking to use the experience from the World Championships to give me the edge in this competition.”
