Councillors were this week told that the £20 million remedial works are ahead of schedule and they can expect a handover next summer.
DG One construction manager Frank Crilley addressed a meeting in Dumfries on Tuesday afternoon. He said: “This revised completion date shall facilitate use of the complex during the school summer holidays in 2019. The contractor is currently reporting works are on programme.”
Mr Crilley also reported an “increased degree of scrutiny and monitoring” of the project, adding: “The project manager, mechanical and electrical clerk of works, and building clerk of works are carrying out regular joint inspections of the facilities in order to determine the best way forward to ensure quality. This is also supported by the quality assurance processes from the professional team and contractors. Fortnightly progress and technical meetings take place. “No major issues to report on quality to date.”
And he listed the works that have been done and completed so far, including:
Roof works
Remedial blockwork
New internal partitions
Waterproof rendering to pools
Rotunda reinstatement
Leisure pool construction
Spa area
Underfloor heating
Dance and fitness studio Dry change area
DG One opened in 2008 but had to shut in 2014 after a wide range of defects were found.
