Neil Mckain got a knock on the door at around 10 pm on Saturday and was greeted by a panicked friend who informed him his pickup truck was on fire.
Mr Mckain then rushed down to his garage in Port Street to discover that three vehicles, a Fiat Sidici, a Mit- subishi L200 and a VW T4 pickup, were engulfed in flames.
He said: “This was deliberate and it was not random.
“It was the driver side front wheel on two of the cars that caught fire, the third was consequential, it was parked very close to one of the cars on fire.
“The damage will come to around £10,000 for all the cars.”
The attack left Mr Mckain fearing for what could have happened if he was in his workshop that night.
He said: “I quite often work that late, I only live up the road.
“It feels bad because if I was inside the smoke went through the workshop door, and I am asthmatic, so it could have been life threatening.”
Mr Mckain has not returned to the garage alone since the attack and has had his work partially halted as he deals with the aftermath of the fire.
Police Scotland have been appealing for witnesses since the fire.
Constable Victoria Urwin said: “We are treating this fire as suspicious and would ask anyone who may have been in the Port Street area on Saturday evening to call us on the 101 number if they saw or heard anything suspicious, quoting the reference number 4379 of 3/11.”
