Two men tried to pass a counterfeit £50 Northern Ireland note in a Lockerbie shop around 4 pm yesterday.
The note was rejected by the shopkeeper.
The two involved are described as being male, white, around 18/20 years, one being about 5’9” tall with dark short hair and the other slightly taller with lighter wavy hair and a brace on his teeth.
The taller wore a navy puffa jacket and jeans and the other wore a dark collared jumper and jeans. One spoke with an Irish accent.
A police spokesman said: “As usual we ask that high value notes are always checked carefully and that if you are suspicious in any way then please call Police Scotland at the time on the 101 number.”
