Last month, the old RBS building in Annan town centre went under the hammer and sold for £91,000 to a mystery buyer.
The site was described as one of the ‘highlights’ of the sale by the auction company and had a guide price set at between £75,000 and £80,000.
Meanwhile, its sister site in Lockerbie sold for £65,000, also to an unknown buyer.
The high street properties were two of dozens of small town banks on the RBS hitlist earlier this year when they announced plans to close several branches nationally.
And it was rumoured both had been purchased by JD Wetherspoon, who own a host of pubs across the UK, including the Robert The Bruce in Dumfries.
But a spokesman for the chain this week denied the rumours, saying they had not purchased the sites.
