Tories win by election

A BUSINESSWOMAN has been elected to Dumfries and Galloway Council following a by election.

Conservative candidate Pauline Drysdale won the contest for the Dee and Glenkens seat with 1956 votes.

Glen Murray for the SNP secured 1357 votes and also standing were Jennifer Blue for UKIP, Laura Moodie for the Greens and Independent candidate Colin Wyper.

In total, 3692 votes were cast on Thursday and the result was announced earlier today.

Pauline replaces Patsy Gilroy in the seat.

She is pictured above with MSP Finlay Carson.
