Queen Elizabeth II remembers Lockerbie

THIRTY years on, HRH the Queen has sent a message of remembrance to Lockerbie's 'remarkable' community.

Today, Lord Lieutenant Fiona Armstrong will read a message from HRH Queen Elizabeth II to the townsfolk of Lockerbie.

Ms Armstrong said: “Thirty years on, we are here to remember. To mourn loved ones that were lost and to pay tribute to the selfless people who helped in the aftermath of the disaster.

“Lockerbie is a remarkable community. Something The Queen herself saw when she came here.”

And she was asked to pass on this message from the Queen: “Please convey my warm thanks to the people of Dumfriesshire for their kind message, sent on the occasion of their Remembrance Service to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the Lockerbie bombing, which is being held today.

“I send my prayers and good wishes to all those who will be marking this solemn anniversary.”
