John Pagani and Danny Palmer, of the Cafe Royal, were contestants on game show The 100K Drop, hosted by Davina McCall.
They applied in the hope of being able to raise funds for their charity, Light of Literacy, which supports street children in India.
John said: “It was seen as a nice way to bring in extra money for the charity.
“We were pleased to go on together.”
Their appearance was filmed in Manchester in November but aired last night.
And as viewers saw, a combination of challenging questions and nerves proved ultimately too testing for the duo.
Dan this week said: “I wasn’t that bad but John was nervous.”
They started off with £100,000 in the prize pot, nearly losing it all on the first question, which was medically related, but they overcame that and in the end made it to question five, out of seven, before it was all gone.
John said they were proud to do so well and although they came home without the prize, they were pleased with their efforts and had a great experience.
The couple originally applied for the show last August and following auditions, beat 150,000 others to win a place.
Meanwhile, Light of Literacy is going from strength to strength since it was launched eight years ago. They originally started off with ten children and are now at full capacity and the pair are proud to have been able to provide opportunities that the youngsters would otherwise have missed out on, including the chance at a university education.
