£6k daylight jewellery theft

RINGS, cufflinks, necklaces and bracelets worth over £6000 were stolen from under the nose a Wigtown jeweller.

And police are seeking two Asian people who swindled the owner of Traditions in the town’s North Main Street on Tuesday afternoon.

The theft happened at around 3.20 pm when a man and woman lured the owner into thinking they wanted to buy a number of items.

Following a distraction with the shop owner, the two left the shop intimating they would later return to collect some items but failed to do so, and it was then that the theft was discovered.

Constable Nicola Crosbie, based in Newton Stewart, said: “We want to trace two people who entered the shop at around 3.20 pm on Tuesday afternoon.

“The man is described as being of Asian appearance, around 60 years of age, about 6” tall, of a slim build, with stubble on his face and greying short hair.

“The female is also described as being of Asian appearance, about 30/40 years old, with black hair and long nails which had gem stones in the middle.

“Anyone who can help us identify these two is asked to call us on the 101 number quoting the reference number 2788 7/5.”
