Kevin, who has played with Dundee and spent the past year with Cypriot club Patos, this week signed up.
‘Holty’, 26, who came through the youth ranks with the Doonhamers, was born in Dumfries and is the son of Gordon Holt who played for Kello Rovers, Airdrieonians and Stranraer, as well as having a spell playing and managing Dalbeattie Star. Holt spent five seasons at Queens from 2011 to when he made his debut against Morton in the September of that year, but in 2015 he joined Premier League side Dundee and spent three years there before heading for Cyprus last summer where he joined FC Pafos. New Queens manager Johnston was delighted to sign up Holt, who he worked with at Palmerston during his first spell in charge.
Johnston said: “It’s a good signing for us and I’m delighted to bring Kevin back to Queens and get the chance to work with him again. Sandy and I worked with him before in our first period in charge and he’s played at a very good level since. He’s definitely a player who could play at a higher level so I’m delighted he has chosen to come here.”
Holt, a left full back who made 106 appearances for Queens between 2011-15 and 95 with Dundee, is also looking forward to his return to his hometown club. He added: “I’m delighted to get the deal done so quickly.As soon as I knew there was a chance of coming back to Queens I was keen to get it done.”
Meanwhile, defender Darren Brownlie is the first of this year’s squad to agree a new contract. The centre half who joined from Cowdenbeath in 2015 missed most of last season recovering from a cruciate injury but proved his worth on his return to the squad and played a big part in the recent playoff. Brownie has signed a one year extension, despite interest from other Championship clubs.
