Turbines are too big

A NEW plan for ‘very large’ wind turbines in Annandale has been described as ‘overbearing’ and ‘not acceptable’ by council officials.

And they are recommending that the proposal for the Crossdykes site, between Langholm and Lockerbie is refused.

Muirhall Energy was last year granted permission for the 15 turbine development, but they now want to cut it back to ten windmills and increase the height of each one – from 149.9 metres to 176.5 metres from base to tip.

However, planning officials say that’s a no-go as they would be too large in the surrounding landscape and dominate the countryside.

The planning applications committee will meet in Dumfries next week to consider the bid.
