The search started around 9.45pm last night after Belfast Coastguard received a 999 call reporting a microlight/paraglider entering the Solway Firth in the Ruthwell to Carsethorn area of the Dumfries and Galloway coastline.
Coastguard teams from Dumfries and Galloway joined the search along with lifeboats from Silloth and Workington and Kippford and Nith Inshore lifeboats.
The Coastguard teams from Portling, Kirkcudbright and Annan searched the beaches on the Scottish side of the Solway, and the Workington and Silloth Lifeboats carried out a sea search and were joined by the, Kippford RNLI and Nith Inshore Rescue boats.
The operation was suspended in the early hours of this morning while further investigation took place but was resumed this morning with lifeboats and coastguards from both sides of the Solway taking part.
Stewart Bryden the Coastguard senior coastal operations officer said the search had now been called after after no trace of anyone was found.
“We have no reports of anyone missing so we have decided to stop the search but our investigations into the reports will continued.
“Silloth Lifeboat along with the Nith Inshore Rescue boat search this morning and Annan Coastguards search along the shoreline but no trace of anyone or anything has been found.
