The body of Jean Hanlon, 53, was pulled from Heraklion harbour four days after she went missing on the island of Crete in March 2009. Greek authorities ruled she had drowned, but a second post mortem suggested a struggle as she had a broken neck, shattered ribs and a punctured lung. Last month the case was featured on a Channel 5 documentary and, as a result, new information has come to light. Michael Porter, one of Ms Hanlon’s three sons, says the findings have been enough to reopen the case.
He said: “I am over the moon to finally announce this new positive turn around in the case, at last we have got the case re-opened again. I ain’t no fool to think this could put an end to it, however it’s going to take a lot of determination, hard work and planning to make sure it stays open until every unanswered question is answered. That said, this is a massive step in the right direction.”
Later this month, Michael will travel to Crete to launch a new appeal for information in the fight for justice.
