Finlay Waugh, 16, has been chosen to participate in the programme which aims to provide better support and assist young athletes by directing them in the correct manner.
The academy was first established in 2013 and accommodates over 40 athletes and aims to improve retention and representation in GB squads at all age levels.
A two year education programme will help Finlay develop aspects such as knowledge, skills and competencies which are essential to win.
Finlay, who receives funding from Welcome to Langholm Future Champions Awards, has won several national sprinting titles already this year, including gold in the 100 metre final at the Scottish Athletics Under 17 Track and Field Championships in Grangemouth last month.
In addition, he has won Scottish school titles, broken championship records and competed for his country in the last few years, all which attracted the attention of the National Academy.
All the hard work is paying off for Finlay, who has been competing in events since 2011 and has progressed significantly every year and is positioned number two in the 100 metres U17 2019 Scotland rankings.
This year alone has been very busy for the teen and his coach Michael Love, having competed all over the UK and even participated in the World Youth Games in Sweden in June, where he achieved a personal best.
