Eighteen-year-old Mairi McCall followed in the footsteps of her bus driver dad Andy, owner of McCalls Coaches Ltd, last week when she passed her bus test and even took to the roads later that day.
Petite Mairi has now joined the family’s Dumfries and Galloway based business and is holding down her dream job.
She said: “I used to drive the busses in the yard when I was really little and ever since then I wanted my licence.”
Last Wednesday, after enduring a week-long training course at Nithcree, Mairi sat and passed her test first time and started work later that day.
Mairi says she doesn’t know any other female bus drivers and thinks she might have a good chance at being in the running for smallest bus driver in the country.
She said: “I honestly would not have a clue, but it would be great if I was.
She added: “A lot of people will be surprised to see me behind the wheel, already a lot have asked me if I have passed my test because they don’t even think I am old enough to drive.”
Standing at under five feet tall, Mairi says her height has always been a talking point and her trademark, she said: “I don’t mind people talking about my height, I’m known for being a shortie.”
