Lighting up Kirkcudbright

KIRKCUDBRIGHT will be bringing light to the dark autumn evening this weekend at the second annual Illuminaire Festival of Light.

Following the success of the inaugural event last year, the Kirkcudbright Summer Festivities group are bringing back the autumn festival for a second year.

The exciting programme of events will light up some of the town’s most iconic places and spaces, culminating with a spectacular latern parade and firework display on Saturday evening.

Summer festivities group member John Blaikie said: “Our community loved the Festival of Light and asked us to safeguard it for the future.

“We’ve invested thousands of pounds purchasing light installation machines that will show off our town to great effect, and once again many volunteers have worked tirelessly to ensure this festival will be a great experience to take in.”

This year’s festival is backed by more that £7000 of funding from Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Major Festivals and Events Strategy.

The local authority’s events champion Cllr Adam Wilson said: “Kirkcudbright has a stunning townscape that is ideal for a festival of light.

“Our council’s Major Festivals and Events Strategy continues to grow our events and tourist sectors with the Kirkcudbright Festival of Light a fantastic edition.”

Illuminaire Festival of Light takes place at venues across Kirkcudbright until Sunday.
