Recycling reshuffle on its way

THE region's new kerbside recycling service is set to be rolled out across the board in late 2020 or early in 2021.

The new service will also see changes to the opening hours for Household Waste Recycling Centres.

Ahead of the change up, Dumfries and Galloway Council will host a series of Community Conversation events, visiting every ward during October and November 2019 to explain the new service, to listen to ideas, comments and suggestions on the waste service and on the potential opening hours for centres.

At the Community Conversation events, there will be information on the new service with examples of the new bins with displays of the type of materials that can be recycled under the new service.

Chairman of communities committee, councillor Andy Ferguson said: “I am really pleased that we will be offering kerbside recycling opportunities for the whole region next year.

“The new service will make it easier for residents to recycle and for us to process the waste and has the added benefit of reducing costs.

“I would encourage everyone to come along to one of the drop-in sessions to hear more about the service and to give us your views on how we tackle the huge problem of reducing waste together.”
