Band calling on fan-power

A FOUR piece Indie band from Dumfries is a step closer to a huge music breakthrough, after beating nearly 1000 acts to make the final of the prestigious Road to the Main Stage competition.

The Lutras, made up of Danny Heron, Ben Clements, Thomas Gillan and Finlay Maxwell, formed in 2013 and have been dreaming of playing to huge audiences and giving up their day jobs of lorry driver, door-to-door sales and supermarket employee once and for all.

The band, which has gigged at more than 300 venues around Scotland already, is now one of just eight acts in line to win Firestone’s Road to the Main Stage, with prizes including a top UK festival slot in 2020, a VW Transporter van for a year, in-store credit at a Professional Music Technology store, brand new gear from Orange Amplification and a contribution towards the creation of an EP.

Firestone’s Road to the Main Stage has been developed over five years to give artists a chance to shine, reaching out to more than 3500 entrants since its inception in 2015 and generating more than 10,000 votes during this time.

The Lutras’ bassist and songwriter Danny Heron said: “We’re absolutely buzzing to be here. We want to get past the days of cramming our gear into a Fiat Punto and Firestone’s Road to the Main Stage might just give us that opportunity.

“We are still doing so much off our own backs so we need to find some stepping stones to get to that next stage. We want to get in a big van and drive off somewhere to places we’ve never played before. Maybe we will be able to do this soon.”

Their fate now lies in the general public’s hands, who will decide the overall winner by voting on www.firestone.roadtothemainstage.co.uk between until November 13.
