The group were carrying out a track inspection on the West Coast main line just south of the village shortly after 9 am on November 14 when the near miss occurred.
Images taken from a forward facing CCTV camera, above, show the workers moved clear just before the Virgin train passed.
There were no injuries but the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has undertaken a preliminary investigation.
A spokesman for RAIB said they were looking into the circumstances of the incident and a safety report will be published in the next few weeks.
