The wheel in question is attached to a 16-ton truck which Dave Murray i s aiming to haul along a 60 yard course in the car park of his local Tesco store next Sunday.
Dave, a 47-year-old Red Cross first aid volunteer, hopes to raise hundreds of pounds for the charity with his amazing feat of strength.
At his home at Kingholm Quay, Dave, who works as a nursing auxiliary at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, said: “I’ve only ever tried this once before but I’m confident I can manage it.
“Sixteen tons is a lot of truck to shift, but once I get into my stride I’ll keep going.
“It’ll probably feel more like 20 miles than 20 metres so I’ll be concentrating on that finishing line. ”
He is keen to stress that dragging a massive truck is not something everyone should try and that he is relying on his specialist training as a black belt second dan in karate to help him successfully complete his challenge .
As well as his volunteering work with the Red Cross, Dave teaches youngsters and adults karate at a local club and they will all be rooting for him when he makes his attempt.
He said: “It’s a case of mind over matter and being able to picture my – self pulling the truck along the course and over the line. Physical strength is obviously needed to get the truck moving in the first place but I know I can do it.
“I’ll be wearing a special harness and rope and there will be a driver i n the cab to pull on the brakes when I’m over the finishing line.”
He hopes people will turn out to watch and donate money, adding : “It’s for a really great cause. The money I raise will help the organisation to continue the important work that Red Cross does helping people in times of crisis.”
Dave’s charity challenge will take place at Cuckoo Bridge Tesco at 11 am on Sunday May 24.
