Trio sought after £40k store theft

TECH valued at about £40,000 was taken from a store in Dumfries in an early morning raid this week - but bosses there say it’s business as usual.

Detectives are appealing for information after the Currys/PC World store at College Mains Road was targeted by thieves at about 4 am on Tuesday morning.

Items taken include a number of Apple products and laptops.

The total value of the goods is estimated to be in the region of £40,000.

Confirming the incident, a Dixons Carphone spokeswoman said: “We experienced a break-in overnight on Tuesday 10 December at our Dumfries Currys PC World with Carphone Warehouses store. The safety of our colleagues and customers is of paramount importance and we’re thankful no-one was injured.

“The store is open to customers as normal. We’re working with police to support their investigations.”

Meanwhile, police are trying to trace three suspects, who were all wearing dark clothing. Detective constable Mark McLachlan said: “Police enquiries are continuing today to gather more information on those responsible for this theft.

“We believe that there are at least three people involved and a large car or a van would be required to make off with the amount of equipment that was stolen.

“The industrial estate is next to the busy A75, and the area is also regularly used by lorry drivers who park overnight.

“Officers have been carrying out enquiries at the industrial estate and viewing CCTV from in and around the area, which will provide officers with more information on those responsible.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed anything suspicious, or who has any information that will assist our ongoing investigation to contact officers through 101, quoting reference number 0402 of December 10.

“Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.”
