EXCITEMENT is in the air as the Big Burns Supper festival 2020 is just around the corner.

The event, which starts on January 24, is expected to generate an estimated £1.5 million for the local economy as artists, crews and visitors head to Dumfries for two weeks.

Over 700 participants will take part in the ninth edition of the festival, which started in 2012 and more than 100 volunteers will take part in a range of activities like building the festival village on the Whitesands, to making shows for older people.

This year it is estimated that around 18,000 attendees will take part in events in over 20 different venues throughout the town, including the 1000 capacity Spiegeltent. Children and young people can access free shows through the kids go free and students go free schemes, which gives access to big name shows. More than 75 per cent of the entire programme is free with the festival hub running until 3 am on a Friday and Saturday.

And DNG Media readers can win free tickets to see the world famous Kingdom Choir, pictured above (performing at 12.30 pm on Saturday January 25 at Spiegeltent) and four time Grammy Award winner Keb Mo (at 9 pm on Friday January 24 at Spiegeltent).

To enter, tell us how many people the spiegeltent can hold?

Send your answer on the back of a postcard along with your name, address and daytime telephone number before Tuesday January 21 to Big Burns Supper Competition, DNG Media, 96 High Street, Annan, DG12 6EJ. The first correct entries drawn at random win.
