Syringe find sparks concerns

CONCERN has been expressed in Lockerbie after a used needle and syringe were found near a church.

Last week, a local mum made the grim discovery while walking on the footpath between Townhead Street and Victoria Park, beside Dryfesdale Church.

She said: “It is absolutely disgusting.

“Please be extra careful.”

She also confirmed she had reported the matter to Dumfries and Galloway Council as well as police.

The item was removed within hours, much to the relief of the mum.

Giving advice on what to do when discovering suspected drugs paraphernalia which may be dangerous, a spokesman for the local authority said: “They should call the community safety team on 030 33 33 3000 or email [email protected] to report it between 8 am and 9 pm.

“For reports outwith these times, then Police Scotland should be informed.

“Community safety officers are trained to safely remove and dispose of used needles and syringes.”
