Meeting mix up

A CHANCE for rail users to meet train bosses at Lockerbie Station to vent their frustrations has been ‘cancelled’.

Last week a poster appeared in Lockerbie train station encouraging travellers to ‘Meet the Manager’ at an event this morning (Thurs) . . . but a spokesman for TransPennine yesterday confirmed the meeting was only for staff, not for the public.

The mistake comes after months of problems with services at Lockerbie. Acknowledging the error, the spokesman said: “Unfortunately, colleagues at Lockerbie station have incorrectly advised that a ‘Meet the Manager’ event is scheduled for this week.

“We always welcome opportunities to engage with customers, which is why we are working with Dumfries and Galloway Council and SWestrans to reconvene the Lockerbie Station Liaison Group, which will hopefully meet next month in the evening with customers, other train operators and Network Rail in attendance. We will also be holding our own ‘Meet the Manager’ event at Lockerbie in the coming weeks at a commuter friendly time, which we will advertise on our social media channels.”

Reacting to the revelation, MP David Mundell said: “It is just absolutely astounding. Not only can they not organise trains, but they can’t organise a meeting. Hopefully they manage to get the message out to people who were intending to go along.

“It is vital that TransPennine meet directly with their customers that have been affected by the cancellations and delays, not only for feedback but so they can apologise. Lockerbie travellers deserve an apology.”
